How to plan and prepare for your ROM? ♥

Step 1   FIND THE RIGHT PLACE; the most important step.
Decide on where you want to hold your solemnization FIRST before proceeding. You can hold it in the registry of marriage or outside rom. There’s alot of places you can hold your solemnization, as for ours, we wanted a place that’s cosy and something that’s not so traditional; not those typical hotel function rooms. We went around to view the venues, here’s a list of places we have been to and you may wanna consider.. (Will elaborate in the future posts)

a) Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa
b) Capella Singapore
c) Singapore Yact Club
d) Mandai Orchid Garden
e) Keppel Club
f) Naumi Hotel
g) TungLok at Central
h) Royal Plaza on Scotts
i) Swissotel Merchant Court
j) La Cantina
k) Flutes at the Fort
l) One Rochester
m) Shangri-la
n) Grand Corpthorne
0) Alps cafe

Personally for me, I love singing and I know most of our friends love singing too..
So Momo and I decided  to settle for this cosy little pub/cafe; a place that our guests can eat and sing at the same time rather than the usual boring routine- u sit, eat, stare kinda thing.

Step 2   FIND A SOLEMNIZER/JUSTICE OF PEACE
Just go to forums like SingaporeBrides, Cozycot, Flowerpod..
There are a lot of threads discussing about the different licensed solemnizers..
Personally we chose the most popular one…
But my advice; being the most popular doesnt mean he is the best.
I’ve painstakingly went online to look for the positive feedbacks from a lot of brides on these solemnizers,I have shortlisted a few maybe you guys can consider..

a) Mr Jude Yeo Woon Soo – 9117 8697
b) Mr Chia Ti Yu – 96545465
c) Mr Phua Tan Tee
d) Mrs chia Swee Tin

Contact the JP and at this point of time, be prepared to inform him the date, time and venue of your Big day,Have a few choices just in case your desired JP isnt free on that particular day.

Once the he/she has agreed to be your solemnizor, get his license number ( you can also get it from http://www.rom.gov.sg ) And the JP will arrange to meet/email/fax you the letter of consent signed by him.

Step 3   FILE FOR NOTICE OF MARRIAGE
Go to https://app.rom.gov.sg/internet/efile/file_notice_marriage_step1a.asp and fill up the forms.
After filing, you will be prompted to pay $26 online.
A date wil also be given to you ( usually 3 or 4 days before your ROM ) and you and your spouse-to-be will have to be there with..

a) Both parties ICs
b) A photocopy of your witnesseS ICs
c) The Letter of Consent from the JP

Both of you will have to raise up your right hand and vowed. After which the officer will give you your marriage certificate in a carrier with some other miscellaneous stuffs. Remember do not remove anything from the bag, you just need to bring the whole bag and hand it to your JP on your actual day, he/she will know what to do.

Step 4 ♥  GET THE RIGHT DRESS FOR HER, RIGHT SUIT FOR HIM
Basically this isnt much a prob for Momo and I because we already bought a package from a bridal boutique quite a while ago. I feel that it is better to have the package as everything is included and we have one thing less to worry about. Remember to negotiate/bargain as much as you can when you buy the package!

 Step 5 ♥  HAVE A THEME
We requested our guests to come in floral dress and shirt! And almost 90% of them really followed the theme!
Really touched when I saw my lovely guests all tad in different kinds of floral clothes.
And I knew that quite a lot of them specially went to search for the right piece afraid of 撞衫!
Besides the dress code, I had a colour theme as well, I wanted Gold, White and Red. I had red roses(fake and real) and the decoration stuffs were mainly in Gold and White!
If you can think of any themes for your wedding, go ahead! Even the popular Xiaxue had a theme for her wedding; MAFIA!
I think it’s fun and the pictures are definitely nicer!

Step 6  CREATE YOUR GUEST LIST AND INVITATION CARD
You and your partner should roughly have a list of guests that you guys planned to invite at the first step. One of the most important question the in-charge will ask you when you are looking for a venue is; For how many people? Followed by the time of the event. It is ok to give the minimm and increase at a later part.
Initially Momo and I only planned to invite 30 people, however we increased from 30 to 40 and lastly >50.
We are really happy and grateful that all our guests turned up, no one flew us aeroplane!

Here’s the first invite I created when I know the date and time of our ceremony.

This is the Final invite I did..

However with the help of monkey, Ive decided on this instead!

A theme is definitely very important! It can be used on your invitation as well!

Step 7   SHOP FOR DECORATION STUFFS, ACCESSORIES ETC
Basically we planned and did everything by ourselves for the decorations. You can go to The Verge(formerly known as Tekka Mall), they have a lot of shops selling party ware etc on the 5th level(located at Concourse @ Beach Rd previously)
Furthermore, I also bought some of the decoration stuffs from another great place; Daiso!
I’m really glad I managed to find what I wanted and of course, with the aid of my lovely buddies who came down earlier to decorate the place for us, without them my plan wouldnt have come true. Great job guys!

I wouldnt dare to say this is the perfect guide for your ROM, but hope it helps!

P.S: Will be more useful for those who hold their ROM and Actual Day on a separate day.

Feel free to ask me anything on Formspring!
